Connections…

The main essence of a support group is connection among the people who are from various backgrounds. To get all of them on a same platform is a challenge, the only factor which binds them all is type 1 diabetes. Hence we focus our energies on discussion and workshops in type 1 diabetes.
We have made progress in that but the major criticism is that the events are not fun. Fun doesn’t come from arranging fun events because these people do not have common interests. Fun comes from connecting but apart from the usual barriers people build around them hampering any new connections, the walls around many of these people with type 1 diabetes are more difficult to break because inside the walls they are used to hiding their struggles. They do not want to lower their defences down because it’s not easy for them to trust others.
They hide their disease and themselves inside the walls.
What is the one thing which can melt away or evaporate these walls opening up their lives like butterflies coming out from cocoons. How do we initiate this process of trust building, connection?
Communication…
Music…
Creating a common purpose…
Let’s meet again on 29th July and we have a live music band playing for us. People with type 1 diabetes will bring food and meals to do a practical carbohydrate counting.
We will have a discussion on buying glucostrips and bd needles for the group members at a bulk price. We need volunteers to run this cooperative society model. Their is strength in numbers, there is strength in numbers. All of you when work together can change this world and make it a better place for people with type 1 diabetes.
